Film Opening Idea

At first when we first formed as a group it was quite clear we all wanted to do the theme of comic/action for our film opening. Together we discused different super heros and comic book films. This way we created ideas from things that have been done in the past. After discussing hero's and villains we decided on a plot for our film opening. The film idea we came up with was that the hero is a stereotypical hero who has a secret identity and fights crime in a superhero costume. However we added a twist to our plot as we decided that the villains should also be played by the same character and that the hero is not aware he is also the villain. However the villain is aware he is also the hero. We had basically decided that our hero has multiple personality disorder.

After we had decided on the plot we needed to come up with other small details that would be vital to our story line such as a super power for our hero and villain. We had come up with the idea that the hero can control time. Instead of giving the villain his own power we again wanted to make the plot realistic and add a twist. The twist being that the villain cant control the time and this frustrates him and also makes him become obsessed with the hero.

We really like this idea and we think we can reprisent the character through contrasts of different lighting,body language, and costume. We also think that working with just the one character will benefit us for time and will make our filming less complicated as we do not have to rely on other actors. We will be experimenting with the connotations of good vs evil and we will be experimenting with how to present this idea.

 When imogen presented our idea to the lass the feedback we got back was mainly posstive as people said they thought the idea was original and sounded very interesting in general however they thought it would be difficult for us two portray two different characters from the same actor. However i think we can do it with the use of sterotypes and connotation and the way we will use our mise en scene and camera angles.

Feedback and 25 word pitch

 

This is a picture of public feedback after we breifly explained our idea and asked for peopled oppinions on the idea and also asked for any name ideas. I think this was important as it gave us a chance to alter our plot if people didnt like it and also gave the public a chance to feel more involved with our film and helps us create an aimed audience that we would like to watch the film. For example all the people who commented with possitive feedback are all teenagers and this is what our target audience is.  I think allowing them to also come up with the name helps make our quite complicated plot more understanding.

 

 Imogen had also explained our idea to our class and teacher. We mainly got possitive feedback about our plot and ideas for our film opening however they did make fair comments on the difficulty the techniques will be that we will have to use and that it would be quite hard to portray.  We will however achieve this by using stereotype methods of presenting a hero and presenting a villain to an audience to make their role clear to the audience. All in all they said they really likethe sound of our idea and that they are genuinly interested as we are not showing your stereotypical hero and villain.

Sound design- The speration

 When we were first introduced to this video we were not shown the video itself ut told to listen to the first 2 minutes of the clip without watching it.
When we did this experiment i first pictured some type of old fashioned nursery with dirty walls and poor toys and it was quite an abandoned place as yu could only hear the one toy being played with. The heavy breathing had a sinister effect as this isnt an attractive noise and sounds actually quite scary and also highlights the fact that this 'person' is on their own. I then pictured a faulty light as we heard the lights flickering this again made my mental image quite sinister as the scene i have pictured has bad lighting. We then hear a very high pitched noise this made me thing that something is happening that has scared the child that he is mortified at this event and this dreadful noise highlights his fear. I then image the baby who was playing in the nursery is now in a hospital as we hear a monitor and some beeping noises which are stereotypical heart monitor noises and helps me create this scene.

After i had watched the video over i saw that the mental image i had created wasnt really that far off from what the video was showing and this proves the point of david lynch that music really doe splay a big part.
The person who also created this video did play around with sound effects and likes to make sounds using weird noises and playing with effects. For example when the sewing machine is on he used thew sounds of mating elephants played backwards and sped up to create the sound of the sewing machine. This inspires us as a group to try and create our own sound and find things around us to make sound and help create our film and set an atmosphere.

 

 

Mirror scene spiderman

 

 I like this video as we see how they have reprisented two characters played by the same person. I like how they are closer to the man in the mirror and we mainly focus on his reflection this allows us to see more of the villain and also helps make it clear it is really him. The bit were he also turn around away from the mirror helps clarify that he is also good. I think mirrors are a great way to show an audience two different characters played by the same person and it also is a great way to represent some sort of mental illness and difficulties. Mirrors reflect peoples identities and playing with this conclusion is a great way to create connotypes of peoples characters.

Location of villains secret room and risk asessment

  This is where we would like to set the villains secret room. We have chosen this area because it looks very confined and compact which makes our character seem iscolated and this adds a sinister effect to his obsession and actions. We can also control the lighting well in this area to make it suit us. We hope to use very little lighting as we again play with the stereotypical ways of presenting a villain.

 This is an example of the type of lighting we will be filming under. We used a small hand held white light to highlight areas we wanted to film. Using a white light will also make it easy to alter colours using filters in editing software. We want the lighting to be minimal in the villains corner as it will help create the sinister atmosphere we need to create to make this area realted to the villain and relevant to the plot.

 To show how personal this area is to the villain we placed pictures and notes on the wall that were supposedly put up by the villain. This almost labels the area as the villains corner as he has personalised it more.

 On one wall we included photos of clocks and pictures of diagrams of clocks. This highlights his obsession with time and makes it clear to our audience.

 On another wall we had photos of our 'hero' and we made newspaper headlines and attached news paper clippings. This shows his obession with the hero character and this intensifies the scene. Having the clocks on the wall next to him also shows there is some direct link somehow with this character and the time theory. We are trying to make this link quite clear. The images are also supposed to be candid photo's so our character is unaware his photo is being taken and therefor this makes a villain a stalker and makes him more obsessive and quite sinister and weird.

 We have included a scene were the villain goes through a fit of rage as he is frustrated with the fact he cannot control time. We used scrap pieces of paper and clock images to make this scene look effective as he throws the paper off the table. It also makes our villain seem quite smart and organized with all his paper work. There will also be a scene of him flipping the table to reflect his violent rage even more so. This will show in general he has a temper and is capable of violence.

 This is a prop we would like to use in a scene where the villain is holding the clock. This will again show a direct link between him and time and his frustration at the fact that he cannot control or change time.

 This is the small LED white light torch we used. This enable us to posistion the lighting easily and also helps us to use the torch at different angles to create different effects. This light was key to highlighting our character and his little room so we can see important scenes.

Risk asessment

 

For the scenes that we included in the villains secret room precautions had to be made as we were filming in pitch black. Before we started filming we  made sure our filming space was clear and that all the props were all in place so we wasnt messing about in the dark. Because i was incharge of the lighting i had to make sure that the lighting was always focused on the character when film,ing but also on imogen and Aaron after filming so they could get into different positions for the next upcoming scenes and that we could handle props with the lighting. We also has to make sure that there was a clear space for the scene Where Aaron would flip a table. We also made a pre warning to people in the area to stay back and me and imogen was stood behind Aaron as he did the stunt so we wasnt in the way of the table. Overall there was nor real danger and we handled the table scene responsibly and effectively.



Locations of hero's house and props and risk assesment.

In this first image you see the tripod we set up to place the camera onto to give us a level and steady shot when filming this will make our film look more professional and also seem quite real. This also makes it easier for the audience to view as everything is in focus and where it should be.

 

For this picture we placed the camera onto the tripod and this way we are able to show you the veiw of the video camera for oneof our scenes. I like how the mirror shows a slight reflection of the rest of the room as this acts as an establishing shot so we can see more of the setting.

 

This is the wardrobe we used as aaron put away his costume. This is also ghe veiw of one of the scenes were we use a long shot to use an action match of him putting the suit away so you get two perspectives of the scene.

 

This is the wide angle shot done at a slightly high angle were we will have a scene of him putting the costume away. This will enable the viewers to see the costume more clearly.

 

This clock is a prop we used for a scene when the time changes from 7:29 to 7:30. We did this so we add more relevance to the clocks and it will also add dramatic effect and tension to our film.

 

 

These are our characters. Imogen is wearing a dress that we thought would be suitabe and stereotypical for a womans work dress. This shows she is average and also has a normal job. Aaron is in his 'hero' costume which is his white shirt which connotes good purity and also slight innocence all the things a hero character would need to empasise. This also makes him look very intelligant and sophisticated

This is a morph suit we used to reprisent the hero's costume. We used a morph suit because stereotypically hero's wear a type of full body suit suit. This make the suit look more outstanding than a two piece costume and is supposedly more efficiant for the hero. This prop is very important in our scene were he puts it away we also made sure our character handled the suit carefully and stared at it for a few seconds to show him embracing his costume. This shows he has passion for his hero job and takes good care of his costume.


Risk asessment

What we did is made sure that the area we were filming was clear and that there was no chance of our actors being injured by tripping up or so and so. Also we did try and be really careful when handling the costume of the hero as we didnt want to damage it. We also had to be careful with the scene of Aaronh putting the costume away as there was a possibility of costume of setting melfunction.

 

Costume Designs

This is the costume for the villain. For this we have gotten our character to wear a balck shirt. This will create an immediate contrast with our hero character and will clearly show the differences between the characters. We are also going to style his hair differently this is again to show a clear and immediate contrast between the two characters and show there are no similarities.

 

This is the costume design for our hero. He is dressed in a white shirt and white is the sign or purity and is often linked to goodness. We are using stereotypes with our heros and villains with the use of our costumes.

 

This is the hero's girlfriend. We wanted her to look average and like a working woman so we got her to wear stereotypical clothing and therefore she doesnt stand out as a character .
